Indonesia-EU Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement to Be Signed in September
This new partnership represents a vast market as it combines the populations of both regions, totalling more than 700 million people.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Investment and Downstream Industries Minister/BKPM Head Rosan Roeslani has said the Indonesia-EU Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (I-EU CEPA) will be signed in September.
"The plan is for this to be signed in September. It will then be ratified as quickly as possible," Rosan said in a press statement via audio recording received in Jakarta on Monday.
Rosan explained that Indonesia's trade value with the European Union could increase from US$30 billion to US$60 billion once the I-EU CEPA is implemented.
According to Rosan, this new partnership represents a vast market as it combines the populations of both regions, totalling more than 700 million people.
"This is something extremely positive, because as we have heard together, both trade and investment with European countries are very, very significant," Rosan said.
After accompanying President Prabowo's meeting with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President António Costa, Rosan also accompanied President Prabowo to subsequent meetings in Paris, France.
Rosan outlined a number of scheduled engagements in Paris, including meetings between business leaders and partners from France and the United Kingdom, organised by Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) Chairman Anindya Bakrie.
Based on compiled data, Indonesia-EU trade reached US$30.1 billion in 2024, with Indonesian exports accounting for approximately US$17.5 billion.
During the meeting at European Commission headquarters, President Prabowo Subianto and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced that negotiations on the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between Indonesia and the EU had been concluded after approximately 10 years of negotiations.
"Today we have achieved a breakthrough. After negotiating for 10 years, we have concluded the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), which is essentially a free trade agreement. We have agreed on many, many agreements, which essentially mean we will mutually accommodate each other's economic interests, and we have found these interests to be mutually beneficial," President Prabowo said.
