Indonesia enters fourth year of zero terror attacks, urges continued vigilance

Deputy Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs Lodewijk F. Paulus has said Indonesia is entering its fourth year of “zero attack” in terms of terrorist acts.

Lodewijk also urged the entire public to maintain national vigilance so that the zero attack condition, or the absence of violent terrorist attacks in a given area over a certain period, can continue to be upheld.

“Let us continue to maintain national vigilance against acts of terrorism. Alhamdulillah, this zero attack has now entered its fourth year. This is what we continue to safeguard,” he said at the 2026 International Day of Remembrance and Tribute to the Victims of Terrorism event in Jakarta on Friday.

Acts of terrorism and violent extremism, he said, are not merely crimes against individuals; they are crimes against humanity that tear apart the public’s sense of security.

“We do not want any more victims as a result of the criminal act of terrorism. The BNPT, the Witness and Victim Protection Agency, and other law enforcement officials cannot work alone. Public involvement is needed so that, as I said earlier, acts of terrorism need to be suppressed to remain at zero attack,” he stated.

Meanwhile, Head of BNPT Commissioner General Pol. Eddy Hartono added that Indonesia’s four years of being spared from terrorist incidents were thanks to the synergy and collaboration of all parties, starting from intelligence elements and law enforcement officials.

He revealed that over the past four years, 28 planned terrorist attacks in Indonesia were successfully prevented by the authorities.

This prevention, he said, is in accordance with the mandate of Law Number 5 of 2018, which stipulates that preparatory acts (of terrorism) already fall within the realm of criminal law.

Based on the guidelines of that law, mitigation can therefore be carried out from the outset.

“Because under Law Number 5 of 2018, preparatory acts already fall within the realm of criminal law, so mitigation can be carried out from the very beginning,” Eddy said.
