Indonesia Design Week (IDW) 2026 is scheduled to take place from 18–27 September 2026, expanding its venues to several destinations within the Pantai Indah Kapuk (PIK) area, Tangerang, Banten. This year, the annual event hosted by Indonesia Design District (IDD) PIK2 adopts the theme “Collective Culture”.

For the first time, the IDW series will not only be held at IDD PIK2 but will also encompass Pantjoran PIK, Central Market PIK, By The Sea PIK, Batavia PIK, Land’s End PIK2, and Orange Groves PIK2. This expansion is part of the IDW 2026 concept, which seeks to bring together design with culture, public spaces, lifestyle, and community. The prepared programmes cover cultural heritage, sustainability, fashion, lifestyle, recreation, and community-based activities.

Operating under the principle of “Crafted in Collaboration, Curated by Culture, and Built Through Diversity”, IDW 2026 will bring together designers, architects, artists, institutions, entrepreneurs, students, and communities. The activities are divided into three groups: Main Highlights, Experience Programmes, and Community and Supporting Events.

One of the main agendas this year is the SaloneSatellite Permanent Collection Exhibition, running from 18 September to 18 October 2026. This marks the first time the SaloneSatellite Permanent Collection has been held in Indonesia. A total of 55 works from the 415 objects in the collection will be displayed. This collection records the journey of contemporary design over nearly three decades, ranging from prototypes by young designers to works that have evolved into mass-produced products, museum collections, and pieces of contemporary design history.

SaloneSatellite has been running since 199lar. Since 2018, the Permanent Collection has been stored and exhibited at Artwood Academy in Lentate sul Seveso, Brianza, Italy, a region renowned as a vital hub for the design and furniture industry. Jakarta serves as the third international destination for the SaloneSatellite Permanent Collection, following Hong Kong in 2024 and the Italian Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka. The exhibition at IDD PIK2 also marks the first stop in the latest international tour of Salone del Mobile.Milano.

Marva Griffin Wilshire, Founder and Curator of SaloneSatellite, and Maria Porro, President of Salone del Mobile.Milano, are scheduled to attend the opening of IDW 2026. Their presence is part of an effort to connect Indonesian design practitioners with the international creative industry network. The exhibition is also supported by the Italian Embassy through the Italian Cultural Institute (IIC) Jakarta and the Italian Trade Agency (ITA) as part of the cooperation between Indonesia and Italy in the design and creative industry sectors.

The presence of the SaloneSatellite collection in Indonesia continues the relationship between IDD PIK2 and the international design ecosystem. In April 2026, IDD PIK2 participated in Salone del Mobile.Milano through the IDD Pavilion at SaloneSatellite and the “Skilled Craftsmanship + Innovation” exhibition. During that participation, IDD PIK2 introduced contemporary Indonesian design alongside local materials and expertise, such as rattan, wood, weaving, metal, and ceramics.

“The spirit to continuously adapt is the foundation of every step taken by IDD PIK2. Indonesia Design Week is not merely a celebration, but a dynamic ecosystem that actively brings together designers, brands, manufacturers, and institutions in Indonesia,” said CEO of IDD PIK2, Ipeng Widjojo. According to Ipeng, the ecosystem is directed towards developing local potential while expanding Indonesia’s involvement in the global design ecosystem.

In addition to the SaloneSatellite exhibition, the Main Highlights of IDW 2026 include curated design exhibitions, Design Experience Installations, Design Talks, and ICAD By The Bay. In ICAD By The Bay, several design shops in IDD PIK2 will transform into temporary art galleries through collaborations with Indonesian Contemporary Art & Design (ICAD). This programme brings together contemporary art, design, and commercial spaces. ICAD By The Bay will also feature Pop-Up Merchandise showcasing selected intellectual property from local creators curated by EKRAF, ICAD, and IDD.

In the Experience Programmes category, visitors can participate in various activities related to crafts, design, fashion, and creativity. Artisan Alley, for instance, will present export-ready products, new craft brands, and works from artisans and creators from various regions through collaboration with the Ministry of Industry and the Indonesia Design Development Centre. Another programme is the Jember Fashion Carnaval (JFC), which will present fashion and art performances alongside Batavia Tales, highlighting Indonesian cultural elements.

Meanwhile, Community and Supporting Events will feature various educational and creative activities. Through the IDD Insight Trip, students, professionals, and creative communities from universities in Indonesia and abroad are invited to visit exhibitions, installations, and showrooms at IDD PIK2. The series of activities will also be complemented by creative workshops, tenant activities, and merchandise collaborations with Indonesian artisans and creative brands.

Adityo Ramadhan Dharmanto, Marketing Communication Deputy Department Head of IDD PIK2, stated that the expansion of the IDW 2026 location aims to bring the design experience closer to the public through various spaces in the PIK area. “This year, we want IDW to grow beyond a single destination and become an experience that can be explored across various areas in PIK. By expanding the event to several lifestyle and cultural destinations, we invite the public to see in a different way how design is present in daily life, public spaces, and communities,” said Adityo.

For this year’s event, Bank Mandiri serves as the Official Banking Partner of IDW 2026. Bank Mandiri will also present several programmes for visitors, including cashback, vouchers, and rewards for new Mandiri Prioritas customers.
