Indonesia deploys teams to secure Eid homecoming routes nationwide
“We can confirm that all national roads are well prepared. Currently, Indonesia has 47,603 kilometers of national roads, with a serviceability level of about 93 percent,” ministry secretary-general Wida Nurfaida said in a statement received here on Thursday.
Highlighting manpower readiness, she pointed out that the ministry had set up posts and mobilized quick response teams to support smooth traffic, including 1,461 disaster relief units equipped with resources to address infrastructure emergencies.
“These teams are tasked with identifying locations prone to landslides, floods, and congestion while ensuring quick responses to issues in the field,” Nurfaida said, adding that the service is available 24 hours a day during the homecoming season.
To maintain the reliability of land transport infrastructure, she continued, the ministry has carried out preservation efforts since early 2026, targeting roads, bridges, and drainage systems.
She reported that her side has so far patched potholes in more than 102 thousand locations across national roads and will immediately take quick action in the event of new damages during the homecoming period.
She also noted that the government has ordered a halt to road construction works from March 11 to April 1 to prevent congestion, with exceptions for emergency repairs deemed crucial for traveler safety.
As for national road bridges, Nurfaida reported that the government has reviewed the functionality of 19,337 units stretching around 565 thousand meters in total, confirming that all are ready to serve travelers.
She added that 76 toll roads, covering 3,115 kilometers, are ready to operate with 136 rest areas and 581 toll gates.
