The Indonesian government has demanded a thorough investigation into the attack on peacekeeping troops in Lebanon. Three Indonesian soldiers were killed while serving as part of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) mission. They were the late Major Inf (Anm) Zulmi Aditya Iskandar; the late Sergeant Major (Anm) Muhammad Nur Ichwan; and the late Corporal (Anm) Farizal Rhomadon. “We demand a thorough investigation because this is a peacekeeping mission,” said Foreign Minister Sugiono, after attending the send-off ceremony for the three fallen TNI soldiers at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Tangerang, on Saturday night (4/4/2026). Sugiono stressed that there must be security guarantees for peacekeeping troops. “They are peacekeeping, not peace making. They are not equipped with the capability to make or peace make,” said Sugiono. To that end, he asked the United Nations (UN) to re-evaluate the safety of peacekeeping troops wherever they are, especially in UNIFIL. Furthermore, Sugiono expressed condolences over the death of the three national soldiers. “We all extend our deepest condolences to the families left behind. We hope and pray that the souls of these heroes of the nation are accepted by the Almighty God and that their families are granted health and patience in facing this calamity,” said Sugiono. One soldier, Second Corporal Farizal Rhomadhon, was killed after being hit by artillery fire near the position of the Indonesian UNIFIL contingent in Adchit Al Qusayr, southern Lebanon, on Sunday (29/3/2026). The other two soldiers were killed the following day on Monday (30/3/2026) after the convoy they were escorting was attacked. They were Captain Infantry Zulmi Aditya Iskandar and Sergeant Major Muhammad Nur Ichwan. The repatriation process for the three has been completed. Their bodies arrived at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Tangerang, Banten, Indonesia, on Saturday afternoon (4/4/2026).
