Indonesia Deemed Relevant as Hub for eVTOL Transport Ecosystem Development in Asia

The Founder and CEO of Whitesky Group, Denon Prawiraatmadja, has presented a vision for developing up to 200 eVTOL aircraft, highlighting Indonesia’s position in the growth of the new aviation industry in Asia.

For context, eVTOL refers to electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing, a type of vehicle or aircraft that uses electric power and is capable of taking off and landing vertically, similar to a helicopter.

This was stated by Denon, who also serves as the General Chair of INACA, while acting as the sole speaker from Indonesia during a series of Advanced Air Mobility forums in Hong Kong.

For Denon, competition in Advanced Air Mobility within the region is not merely determined by which country adopts the technology first. The subsequent competition will revolve around who is capable of operating such technology at scale and building a supporting ecosystem.

“Southeast Asia does not only need eVTOL technology. The region requires operators, infrastructure, and a regulatory environment capable of making this technology work on a commercial scale,” Denon stated in a release on Thursday, 10 September 2026.

He emphasised that Indonesia possesses the relevant characteristics for such development. As an archipelagic nation, the need for connectivity arises from mobility patterns spread across cities, airports, economic centres, industrial zones, and various regions where point-to-point transport access is not always available.

However, Denon stressed that geographical characteristics alone are insufficient. He believes the nation must also possess operators capable of translating global technology into real-world operations.
