Indonesia is committed to continuously maintaining harmony between economic acceleration, energy transition, and the protection of natural resources as the main foundation for sustainable development.

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Environment Moh Jumhur Hidayat stated Indonesia’s commitment to carrying out an energy transition that goes hand in hand with environmental protection and ecosystem preservation, at the Global Electrification and Transition Energy Summit (GETES) 2026 in London, England.

“For Indonesia, future transformation must be carried out responsibly. We ensure that every development step taken prioritises strict environmental standards so that it is aligned with our national climate commitments,” said Minister Jumhur, who also serves as Head of the Environmental Control Agency, in a statement confirmed from Jakarta on Wednesday.

During the High-Level Ministerial and CEO Dialogue at the GETES 2026 forum in London on Tuesday (23/6), Jumhur explained that Indonesia, as one of the world’s largest megabiodiversity countries, plays a crucial role in global climate change mitigation. The existence of vast tropical forests, expanses of peatland, and widespread mangrove ecosystems across the country are the main pillars in maintaining the earth’s climate balance.

Therefore, he said, Indonesia is committed to continuously maintaining harmony between economic acceleration, energy transition, and natural resource protection as the main foundation for sustainable development.

This policy direction adopted by the Indonesian Government is in line with the international call echoed by United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. In front of world leaders and energy sector CEOs, Guterres underscored the high urgency of accelerating a global energy transition that is fair, inclusive, and leaves no country behind. Guterres reminded that the main essence of the energy transition process is how the policy can bring real positive impacts, create new jobs, and uphold humanitarian values for communities around the world.

Responding to this call, Minister Jumhur reiterated that Indonesia is ready to implement this framework through an integrated approach that places nature conservation as a key component. “Our priority is to ensure that the direction of development policy remains integrated with strong environmental guidelines. This approach serves as the foundation for Indonesia to maintain consistency between economic growth and environmental conservation targets,” said Jumhur.

On this occasion, the Indonesian delegation also took advantage of the strategic momentum to invite all global partners to strengthen multilateral cooperation that is fair and transparent.
