Indonesia Continues to Strengthen EV Battery Industry to Solar Panels

JAKARTA, investor.id - The Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming continues to promote the strengthening of domestic industries, such as the electric vehicle ecosystem and the development of the solar panel industry. It is known that the raw materials for both industries are abundant in Indonesia.

This needs to be encouraged in line with global dynamics, including the impact of geopolitical conflicts on raw material supply chains.

Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Rosan Roeslani initially stated that there are currently national industrial sectors affected by global geopolitical conditions. One example is the petrochemical industry, which is experiencing disruptions in raw material distribution.

“This also makes us evaluate in earnest to further strengthen our own domestic capabilities,” Rosan said at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta on Monday (13/4/2026).

Rosan assessed that the main focus is directed towards industries directly related to national basic needs, such as energy and food.

These acceleration steps are carried out through strengthening the development of existing industries while opening new opportunities in the future energy sector. Rosan emphasised that the development of new and renewable energy is one of the main priorities in the downstreaming agenda.

Previously, Indonesia has been assessed to have shown significant progress in building the electric vehicle battery ecosystem. This success serves as a foundation for expansion into other sectors with great potential.

In addition, the Government is also promoting the development of the solar panel industry, which is projected to become one of the important pillars in supporting national energy independence. The Government plans to utilise this technology widely in various strategic programmes going forward.

This step is expected not only to strengthen national energy resilience but also to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and imports of technology from abroad.

With a more targeted downstreaming strategy, the government is optimistic that domestic industries can become more resilient, adaptive, and independent amid global uncertainties.

“After being quite successful in developing the electric vehicle battery ecosystem, we are now entering the construction of solar panels,” Rosan concluded.
