Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian government has strongly condemned the second attack that occurred near Bani Hayyyan in southern Lebanon on Monday (30/3), which resulted in the deaths of two UNIFIL peacekeeping personnel and injuries to two others while on duty.

“Indonesia mourns once again the fallen peacekeepers and extends solidarity to the bereaved families, while praying for a swift recovery for the injured personnel,” stated an official release from the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu) on X, monitored online in Jakarta on Tuesday.

Indonesia emphasised that the repeated heinous attack on the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) peacekeepers is completely unacceptable. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed that the safety and security of UN peacekeepers cannot be compromised.

“This attack cannot be viewed as an isolated incident, but rather reflects the increasingly deteriorating security situation in southern Lebanon, where Israel’s ongoing military operations have placed United Nations peacekeepers at very serious risk,” the statement added.

Indonesia has called for an immediate thorough and transparent investigation to uncover the facts, including the chronology of events and the responsible parties, and emphasised that full accountability must be upheld.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also stated that Indonesia continues to strongly condemn Israel’s attacks in southern Lebanon, which have significantly increased the risks faced by UN peacekeeping forces and weakened the implementation of UNIFIL’s mandate as stipulated in UN Security Council Resolution 1701.

Praka Farizal Rhomadhon was confirmed killed in the incident, while three other personnel, namely Praka Rico Pramudia, Praka Bayu Prakoso, and Prka Arif Kurniawan, were injured.

The UN reported that two Indonesian UNIFIL peacekeepers were killed and two others injured in an attack on a UNIFIL logistics convoy near Bani Hayyan in southern Lebanon on Monday (30/3).

With the addition of two more victims in this attack, a total of three personnel have now been killed while carrying out peacekeeping duties in southern Lebanon.
