The Indonesian government has condemned Israel’s actions against journalists and humanitarian activists of the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) 2.0, including Indonesian citizens (WNI), who were arrested earlier this week. The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasised that such actions contradict humanitarian principles and represent a clear violation of international law.

It was previously reported that authorities, including members of the Israeli government cabinet, engaged in violence and inhumane treatment against the GSF 2.0 volunteers. The Spokesperson for the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Yvonne Mewengkang, stated that the government is continuously monitoring the condition of the detained Indonesian citizens and is preparing various anticipatory measures to ensure their safety.

“The Indonesian government and relevant representatives are continuously monitoring the condition and whereabouts of the Indonesian citizens and are preparing the necessary anticipatory steps,” Yvonne said during a press conference on Thursday (21/5/2026).

Yvonne emphasised that the Indonesian government has coordinated with various parties, including relevant authorities, to ensure consular access for the detained citizens. The government is also working to ensure that medical support is available if required and that the repatriation process can be carried out as quickly as possible under safe conditions.

“We have conducted various coordinations and approaches to various parties, including relevant authorities, to ensure consular access, medical support if needed, and to ensure that the repatriation process for Indonesian citizens can be carried out as soon as possible in safe and unobstructed conditions,” she said.

Yvonne reiterated that Indonesia condemns the actions deemed inhumane against the Global Sumud Flotilla 2.0 volunteers. According to her, Israel’s military action against the civilian fleet is unjustifiable and violates international law.

“Indonesia condemns the inhumane treatment of the Global Sumud Flotilla 2.0 volunteers by Israel, as such actions contradict humanitarian principles,” she stated, adding that the military action against the GSF fleet and its volunteers constitutes a “clear violation of international law.”
