The Government of the Republic of Indonesia strongly condemns the Israeli attack near Bani Haiyyan in southern Lebanon that led to the deaths of two TNI soldiers. The attack on TNI personnel serving under the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) is unacceptable. “The recurrence of this heinous attack on Indonesian peacekeepers within a short period is an action that is entirely unacceptable,” stated the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on its official website on Tuesday (31/3/2026). In the attack, two TNI soldiers were killed and two other personnel were injured. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs views this attack not as an isolated incident but as reflective of the increasingly deteriorating security situation in southern Lebanon. “Where ongoing Israeli military operations have placed United Nations peacekeepers at very serious risk,” said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Indonesia continues to strongly condemn Israeli attacks in southern Lebanon that significantly increase risks to UN peacekeepers, while also weakening the implementation of UNIFIL’s mandate as stipulated in UN Security Council Resolution 1701 (2006). “Indonesia once again mourns the fallen peacekeepers and extends solidarity to the bereaved families, while praying for a speedy recovery for the injured personnel,” wrote the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Indonesian government emphasises that the safety and security of UN peacekeepers is non-negotiable. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs considers any actions that endanger them as serious violations of international law and must not be left unaccounted for. “Indonesia calls for an immediate, thorough, and transparent investigation to uncover the facts, including the chronology of the incident and the responsible parties, and asserts that full accountability must be enforced,” stated the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Identity of the Two Fallen TNI Soldiers The TNI has revealed the identities of the two TNI soldiers who died due to the Israeli attack in Lebanon. They are Captain (Inf) Zulmi Aditya Iskandar and Staff Sergeant Muhammad Nur Ichwan. The Head of the Information Centre (Kapuspen) of TNI Headquarters, Major General Aulia Dwi Nasrullah, explained that the two TNI soldiers died while carrying out a mission to escort a UNIFIL vehicle to a specific point. While en route, the vehicle driven by the TNI troops exploded, resulting in casualties. “The explosion of the vehicle caused the deaths of the soldiers,” said Aulia, as reported by Antara.
