Indonesia Condemns Attacks on Commercial Vessels in the Red Sea

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia has condemned attacks on commercial vessels sailing in international waters in the Red Sea. Indonesia considers such actions a violation of international law and a threat to shipping safety and regional stability.

“The Government of the Republic of Indonesia condemns the attacks on commercial vessels sailing in international waters in the Red Sea. These actions contravene international law, including the principle of freedom of navigation, and endanger the safety of shipping, international trade, and regional stability,” the Ministry wrote on its X account on Friday (24 July 2026).

The Ministry called on all parties to exercise restraint and avoid actions that could escalate the conflict. It stressed the importance of respecting international law, including the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), as the foundation for safeguarding security and freedom of navigation in international waters.

“Indonesia calls on all parties to exercise restraint, avoid actions that could increase escalation, and respect international law, including the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS),” it stated.

The Ministry also reaffirmed Indonesia’s support for a resolution to the conflict in Yemen, stressing that it backs a settlement through an inclusive political process.

“Regarding the conflict in Yemen, Indonesia once again affirms its support for resolving the conflict through an inclusive political process that is Yemeni-led and Yemeni-owned, under UN facilitation, and with respect for Yemen’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity,” it said.
