Indonesia Committed to Strengthening Strategic Partnership with Australia

Deputy Minister for Investment and Downstreaming and Deputy Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), Todotua Pasaribu, has affirmed Indonesia’s commitment to continuously strengthening its strategic partnership with Australia through increased quality investment. “The two countries have complementary economies, supported by the increasingly mature IA-CEPA (Indonesia-Australia Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement) cooperation framework,” said Deputy Minister Todotua in a statement in Jakarta on Thursday. According to him, Indonesia and Australia are at a very opportune moment due to the complementary economic relationship between the two countries. He stated that through a series of working visits, the Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming/BKPM is reinforcing its commitment to strengthening the strategic partnership with Australia through increased quality investment. Meetings with investors, dialogues with business actors, and participation in the Indonesia-Australia Business Summit 2026 are expected to be concrete steps to encourage investment realisation that supports downstreaming, infrastructure development, food security, energy transition, and sustainable economic growth for both countries. “We invite Australian investors to be part of a new chapter of Indonesia’s economic growth through investments oriented towards downstreaming, infrastructure, food security, energy transition, and the green economy,” he said while delivering a keynote speech at the Indonesia-Australia Business Summit (IABS) for Indonesia Updates 2026 in Sydney, Australia, on Tuesday (30/6/2026). Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Sugiono stated that a business forum between Indonesia and Belarus discussed economic cooperation that could reach approximately 500 million US dollars in a meeting held a few days prior. Sugiono, when met by journalists at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Thursday, said that the meeting between President Prabowo Subianto and Belarusian President Alexandr Lukashenko on Thursday was a follow-up to President Prabowo’s visit to Belarus on 15 July 2025, which resulted in a commitment to expand bilateral cooperation. “If I am not mistaken, the report mentioned 500 million (US dollars), and I think both presidents agree that these figures, both in trade and investment, need to be increased for the progress of both countries,” Sugiono said, referring to the results of the business forum held on Tuesday (30/6).
