Environment Minister Jumhur Hidayat stated Indonesia’s commitment to an energy transition that goes hand in hand with environmental protection, ecosystem preservation, and worker protection, at the Global Electrification and Transition Energy Summit (GETES) 2026 in London, England, on Tuesday (23/6).

“For Indonesia, future transformation must be carried out responsibly. We ensure that every development step taken continues to prioritise strict environmental standards to align with our national climate commitments and ensure protection for affected workers,” said the Minister of Environment/Head of the Environmental Control Agency (BPLH) Jumhur in a statement confirmed from Jakarta on Wednesday.

During the High-Level Ministerial and CEO Dialogue at the GETES 2026 forum in London, Jumhur explained that Indonesia, as one of the world’s largest megabiodiversity countries, has a crucial role in mitigating global climate change. The existence of vast tropical forests, expanses of peatland, and widely distributed mangrove ecosystems across the country are the main pillars in maintaining the earth’s climate balance.

Therefore, he said, Indonesia is committed to maintaining harmony between economic acceleration, energy transition, natural resource protection, and worker protection as the main foundation of sustainable development.

The policy direction promoted by the Indonesian Government is in line with the international call echoed by the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres. In front of world leaders and energy sector CEOs, Guterres underlined the high urgency of accelerating a global energy transition process that is fair, inclusive, and leaves no country behind.

Guterres reminded that the essence of the energy transition process is how the policy can bring real positive impacts, create new jobs, and uphold human values for communities around the world.

Regarding this call, Minister Jumhur reiterated that Indonesia is ready to implement this framework through an integrated approach that places natural sustainability as a key component. “Our priority is to ensure that the direction of development policy remains integrated with strong environmental guidelines. This approach serves as the foundation for Indonesia to maintain consistency between economic growth and environmental preservation targets,” said Jumhur.

On this occasion, the Indonesian delegation also took advantage of the strategic momentum to invite all global partners to strengthen fair and transparent multilateral cooperation.
