Indonesia Collaborates on Smart Technology Development with Hebei Province

RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, received a delegation from the Hebei Provincial Government, People’s Republic of China, led by Vice Governor, Zhao Chenxin, in Jakarta on Tuesday, May 26, 2026. According to a ministry press release, the meeting was held to deepen economic cooperation, particularly in strengthening industrial supply chains and transformation through the development of smart technology.
Airlangga outlined Indonesia’s readiness to provide a number of strategic economic zones optimized for high-tech industries and the development of smart technology, including Artificial Intelligence. In particular, he highlighted the strategic potential of Eastern Indonesia, specifically North Sulawesi, as a gateway for international data connectivity.
“This location is considered highly promising for data center development due to its geographical advantage of being directly connected to global transmission networks leading to the United States, thereby ensuring efficient cross-border data access,” he said.
Vice Governor Zhao Chenxin, expressed a positive response and commitment by acknowledging the role of the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs in taking strategic steps to create a conducive investment climate through various policies that have been implemented. Chenxin reaffirmed Hebei Province’s commitment to encouraging active participation by Hebei-based entrepreneurs to expand their operations in Indonesia.
Hebei Province has seen rapid development in industries based on smart technology and AI. The Hebei government welcomed the input from Coordinating Minister Airlangga and will immediately communicate it to the business community in China so that it can be concretely followed up as a consideration for future investments.
The meeting concluded with an agreement to maintain intensive communication, including future discussions on logistics efficiency through the development of shipping lines. Coordinating Minister Airlangga also expressed interest in discussing experiences in addressing shipping line issues.
Indonesia’s trade volume with China has now tripled compared to its total trade with Europe and the United States. Indonesia is currently strongly encouraging investment due to its multiplier effects, ranging from job creation to increased foreign exchange earnings for the country.
