“We discussed various issues related to communications and digital affairs, including cooperation on technology transfers and AI development in Indonesia,” Deputy Minister Angga Raka Prabowo said.

He spoke after attending the inaugural meeting of the Indonesia-China Comprehensive Strategic Dialogue at the Foreign Affairs Ministry in Jakarta on Friday, Aug. 21.

Angga said establishing the working group was among the key outcomes of the meeting.

He said the group would strengthen cooperation between his ministry and Chinese partners, with joint initiatives involving the industrial ecosystems of both countries.

“The most important thing is to ensure cooperation is mutually beneficial and does not compromise either country’s national interests,” Angga said.

At the meeting, Angga also outlined Indonesia’s position on global AI governance, noting the country’s membership in the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization, or WAICO.

Membership in WAICO would allow Indonesia to participate in developing a framework for global AI governance, he said.

Angga also stressed the importance of using AI to “deliver the greater good for humanity” and promote international cooperation.

Beyond AI, the meeting discussed potential cooperation to use Indonesia’s critical mineral resources to support semiconductor and microchip manufacturing.

“The next meeting is likely to be held early next year in China,” Angga said.
