“This financial support is expected to help accelerate efforts aimed at enhancing the living environment while boosting public welfare,” PKP Minister Maruarar Sirait noted in a statement received in Jakarta on Thursday.

He added that the ministry also envisions the initiative encouraging residents in Samosir to proactively maintain cleanliness and strengthen their spirit of cooperation for a better quality of life.

Of the allocated funds, Sirait highlighted that Rp11.5 billion would be utilized to revamp slum areas across 25 locations in Samosir, while the remainder is earmarked for the Self-Help Housing Stimulus (BSPS) program, which covers 556 housing units for low-income residents in the district.

He described the policy as a strategic step toward assisting Samosir people in accessing more decent, healthier, and safer housing while improving spatial planning in collaboration with local authorities.

The minister expressed confidence that the budget allocation would lead to sustainable settlement improvements, delivering concrete benefits to the district.

Regarding the BSPS program, Sirait explained that his team had earmarked a budget for a total of 19,668 homes in North Sumatra this year, with 8,825 situated in rural regions, 5,525 in coastal areas, and 5,285 in urban zones.

Overall, the government has set a target of covering around 400 thousand housing units nationwide under the initiative, which forms part of President Prabowo Subianto’s priority programs.

Through BSPS, the Prabowo administration aims for sweeping improvements in the quality of life of numerous low-income citizens, providing them with an opportunity to have housing of higher quality.
