Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Indonesia's central bank sees the weakening of the rupiah currency as temporary and caused by external factors as the country's economic indicators are positive, a Bank Indonesia deputy governor said on Friday.

Hartadi Sarwono told Reuters the central bank will intervene in the foreign exchange market, if necessary, to stabilise the rupiah.

The rupiah, the worst performing currency in Asia this year, fell as low as 9,405 rupiah a dollar before it recovered to 9,339 a dollar at 0208 GMT.

The rupiah was down almost 1.7 percent on Thursday when it ended at 9,307 to the dollar. (*)
