Indonesia Can Request Board of Peace to Take Emergency Action Regarding Israeli Attack on Iran
Jakarta, Indonesia, as a member state of the Board of Peace, can request Chairman and US President Donald Trump to take action regarding Israeli military strikes against Iran.
Hikmahanto Juwana, an international law expert at the University of Indonesia, stated that Indonesia could also propose an emergency meeting to discuss halting the attacks.
“In my view, politically, Indonesia must take steps to request Board of Peace Chairman Donald Trump to take immediate action and convene an emergency Board of Peace session to discuss stopping the attacks,” Hikmahanto told Kompas.com on Saturday (28 February 2026).
He noted that condemning Israel was necessary because the country had clearly violated Article 2, Paragraph 4 of the UN Charter.
Indonesia could also request the United States to exercise restraint in its involvement in Israeli attacks.
“Indonesia could request the UN Security Council to hold an emergency session on the Israeli attacks. Indonesia could draft a UN General Assembly resolution condemning Israeli actions,” he stated.
In earlier reports, Israel struck Tehran, Iran, on Saturday (28 February 2026) morning, subsequently closing airspace and declaring a state of emergency.
According to The Guardian, the airspace closure was implemented as a precautionary measure in case Iran responded with drone and missile attacks.
An Israeli military spokesman stated that the strikes were preliminary attacks to eliminate threats to the nation.
It remains unclear whether Ayatollah Khamenei, 86, was in his office during the strikes. He has not appeared in public for several days amidst escalating tensions between Iran and the United States.
The United States has been reported to have played a role in the Israeli strikes against Iran.
