Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia has called for an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) and urged a swift, thorough, and transparent investigation into the death of an Indonesian member of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).

According to a post on the official X social media account of the Indonesian Foreign Minister, as monitored in Jakarta on Tuesday, Foreign Minister Sugiono contacted UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Monday (30/3) regarding the death of an Indonesian peacekeeper with UNIFIL.

“We call for an emergency UN Security Council meeting and a swift, thorough, and transparent investigation,” Sugiono stated.

He expressed that Indonesia condemns the heinous attack and reaffirms that the safety and security of UN peacekeepers cannot be compromised and must be upheld at all times.

On Monday (30/3), the Indonesian Foreign Ministry stated that an Indonesian UNIFIL peacekeeper was killed by artillery fire near the position of the Indonesian UNIFIL contingent in Adchit Al Qusayr, southern Lebanon, on Sunday (29/3).

Sergeant Major Farizal Rhomadhon was confirmed killed in the incident, while three other soldiers, Sergeant Major Rico Pramudia, Sergeant Major Bayu Prakoso, and Sergeant Major Arif Kurniawan, were injured.

According to the UN Peacekeeping website on Tuesday, as of January 2026, there are 756 Indonesian troops participating in UNIFIL.
