Jakarta - Indonesia has called on all parties to exercise restraint, prioritise dialogue and diplomacy, and stated its readiness to facilitate negotiations between the United States and Iran in order to ease tensions in the Middle East.

“Indonesia reiterates the importance of respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of every nation and resolving differences through peaceful means,” according to a statement from the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu RI) posted on the official X account on Saturday.

Indonesia has stated its readiness to facilitate dialogue so that security conditions and stability in the region can be restored.

“Should both parties agree, the Indonesian President is willing to travel to Tehran to conduct mediation,” according to the Kemlu RI statement.

The Foreign Ministry also urged Indonesian nationals (WNI) in affected areas to remain calm and vigilant, follow the directions of local authorities, and maintain communication with the nearest Indonesian representative.

The United States and Iran previously conducted three rounds of indirect negotiations regarding Iran’s nuclear programme, mediated by Oman. The first and second rounds were held earlier this month in Muscat and Geneva, focusing on limiting uranium enrichment and Iran’s uranium stockpiles in exchange for sanctions relief.

The third round of negotiations took place on Thursday (26 February) in Geneva, amid escalating tensions in the region.
