Indonesia Brings AI, Digital MSMEs, and Green Economy Agenda to APEC Forum
JAKARTA - Deputy Trade Minister Dyah Roro Esti Widya Putri believes digital transformation and the transition to a green economy are now key factors reshaping global trade and investment patterns.
Roro stated that strengthening international cooperation is crucial to ensure the benefits of new economic growth are widely and inclusively felt.
“Digital transformation and green transition are reshaping global trade and investment patterns,” Roro said during the second session of the 32nd Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation Ministers Responsible for Trade (APEC MRT) Meeting titled “Foster New Engines of Innovative and Dynamic Trade and Investment Cooperation” in Suzhou, China, as stated in an official statement on Wednesday, 27 May 2026.
“Therefore, stronger collaboration is needed for the benefits to be widely and inclusively felt by all economies,” Roro added.
This situation is influenced by various factors, including geopolitical dynamics, climate change threats, and global supply chain fragmentation.
APEC member countries are urged to enhance collaboration to build a more resilient, inclusive region prepared for future changes.
The digital sector is a key focus for Indonesia. The country sees technological developments, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), as a major opportunity to improve cross-border trade efficiency.
Technology adoption is expected to lower transaction costs and speed up business and international trade processes.
Indonesia has also noted the growing digital economy, which is a primary driver of domestic economic growth. The country continues to expand AI use in trade through the TradeAI initiative.
