RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta – Special Economic Zones (KEK) have become one of the government’s strategic policies in driving national economic transformation. SEZs are expected to serve as a catalyst for new growth thru accelerated industrialization, increased added value, and strengthening the economic structure in various regions.
Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, said the government is giving significant attention to the role of Special Economic Zones (KEK) in strengthening the national economy. This aligns with the directive of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto.
“Each ministry/institution is expected to actively contribute to increasing investment potential in KEK, thru the acceleration of infrastructure development and the simplification of business licensing,” Airlangga said while opening the National Working Meeting of KEK for the First Quarter of 2026 in Jakarta, Monday, April 27, 2026.
He emphasized that cross-sector support is key to ensuring that the contribution of KEK to the national economy continues to increase. With this synergy, KEK is expected to respond to global economic dynamics sustainably.
Meanwhile, based on the press conference on investment realization for the first quarter of 2026, the investment achievement reached Rp498.79 trillion, growing by 7.22 percent year on year. The absorption of the workforce also increased to 706,569 people, or up 18.93 percent.
Airlangga added that the downstream sector remains the largest contributor, accounting for about 30 percent of total investment.
“so this data center is one of the opportunities.” Therefore, we ask BUPP to continue monitoring, and also because President Prabowo once said that we need to fine-tune the existing KEKs with their facilities. We will continue the KEKs that can truly operate fully within the next 3-4 years so that they can genuinely support economic growth,” he stated.
According to him, there are two KEK locations that have the potential to become data center development hubs, namely Batam and Bitung. The government also encourages KEK managers to continuously monitor these opportunities and make facility adjustments so that KEK can operate optimally in the next three to four years.
