BANGKOK (Agencies): Indonesia returned to its winning form at
the Fed Cup Asia/Oceania qualifying round tennis tournament with
a 2-1 defeat of host Thailand in their group A match on
Wednesday.
Montika Anuchan gave the home side an ideal start with a 6-3,
6-4 win over Indonesia's number two singles player Liza
Andriyani. But the Indonesian women pulled level thanks to Wynne
Prakusya's 6-1, 6-1 rout of Marissa Niroj.
Wynne and her veteran doubles teammate Irawati Moerid clinched
the tie for Indonesia with a 6-1, 6-3 win over the pairing of
Niroj and Anuchan.
Having lost to Chinese Taipei in the opening match on Monday,
Indonesia now needs to beat both winless India and Uzbekistan to
stay in the race for a place in the final.
Top seed Chinese Taipei moved within sight of winning the
group and a final berth after crushing Uzbekistan 3-0, the third
win in a row for the Taiwanese.
