Shanghai (ANTARA News) - Indonesia has asked China to continue increasing its investment in the country.
"We hope there will be more investments from China," Indonesian president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said when opening a business forum between Indonesian and Chinese businessmen here on Monday.
President Yudhoyono said Indonesia is a promising investment target. He said Indonesia is improving and keeps improving itself with regard to creating a conducive climate for investment.
He said right now Indonesia has been able to conduct bureaucratic reform including simplifying administrative and licensing process for investors.
Apart from that Indonesia also continued improving its regulations, he said. He said he hoped the effort would be able to wipe out overlapping in regulations to attract investors. President Yudhoyono said Indonesia is currently being involved in infrastructure development.
To achieve the development target, the government has allocated quite a lot of funds to improve the country`s infrastructure.
Besides that he said Indonesia is also one of the regions rich in energy sources. He said geothermal energy is one of the energy sources that could become a business target for investors.
President Yudhoyono said the two countries need to build understanding to boost investment from China. With it, he said, the countries would be able to develop cooperation which is mutually beneficial for both countries.
"We must strengthen our bilateral cooperation," he said.
No less than 500 businessmen from Indonesia and China attended the meeting at the China Hall, Pudong Shanri-La Hotel in Shanghai.
The business forum is held in cooperation between the Indonesian embassy in Beijing and the Chinese Council for Promotion of International Trade.
The businessmen are scheduled to sign a number of memorandum of understanding in various fields. President Yudhoyono is scheduled to visit the Shanghai Expo 2010 on Tuesday during which he would also visit the Indonesian Pavilion that exhibits the country`s various natural and cultural richness.
Since the opening of the World Expo on May 1, more than 7.5 million people had visited the Indonesian Pavilion or around 10 percent of the total number of visitors of the Shanghai Expo.(*)
