Indonesia and Yemen Strengthen Bilateral Cooperation on Halal Product Assurance
The Indonesian government, through the Halal Product Assurance Organising Body (BPJPH), is strengthening bilateral cooperation with Yemen in the field of halal product assurance.
Head of BPJPH Ahmad Haikal Hasan, in a statement in Jakarta on Monday, said that the two countries have discussed improving good relations and strengthening cooperation, particularly regarding the mechanism for registering halal certificates for halal products originating from Yemen that will enter the Indonesian market.
“This meeting ensures that the strengthening of Indonesia-Yemen cooperation becomes increasingly productive with support for effective and accountable halal product registration and certification processes as a form of commitment to providing legal certainty and protection for consumers,” Haikal stated.
He emphasised that this strengthening of cooperation is in line with the mandate of Law No. 33 of 2014 on Halal Product Assurance, which requires all products circulating in Indonesia to have halal certification.
Furthermore, further arrangements as stipulated in Government Regulation No. 42 of 2024 affirm that foreign products entering, circulating, and traded in Indonesian territory must register their halal certificates through BPJPH. This process, he continued, is part of the national halal assurance system that ensures comprehensive halal standards compliance, including aspects of ingredients, production processes, and distribution.
“This cooperation also ensures closer relations between Indonesia and Yemen, not only for current trade needs but also opening up broader collaboration opportunities in the future,” Haikal said.
“With a strong regulatory foundation and joint commitment, relations between the two countries will continue to develop sustainably and provide benefits for society and the strengthening of the global halal ecosystem,” he added.
As a concrete follow-up, the halal certification registration process for Yemeni products is scheduled to begin next week.
“This initiative not only strengthens Indonesia-Yemen bilateral relations but also serves as a strategic step in promoting the harmonisation of global halal standards and providing certainty and protection for consumers in Indonesia,” he said.
