JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto has stated that the governments of Indonesia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have agreed to strengthen their strategic economic partnership. Specifically, the Minister noted the enhanced cooperation and investment target certain sectors, particularly downstream processing and food security. “Indonesia welcomes the commitment of the UAE and global business players such as Louis Dreyfus Company (LDC) to expand economic cooperation in Indonesia. We encourage increased investment that supports downstream processing, food security, and strengthening the national supply chain,” said Minister Airlangga during a meeting with UAE Ambassador to Indonesia Abdulla Salem Al Dhaheri and Louis Dreyfus Company (LDC) Chief Strategy Officer Thomas Couteaudier at the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs office in Jakarta on Wednesday (10/6). Regarding the presence of UAE businesses in Indonesia, Minister Airlangga affirmed that the Government provides full support for the continuity and development of business activities of UAE companies, including LDC, which has operated in Indonesia for 25 years. On the same occasion, Ambassador Abdulla also expressed appreciation for the positively developing bilateral relations between Indonesia and the UAE. “The UAE sees Indonesia as an important partner in the Southeast Asian region and is open to expanding collaboration in various economic sectors,” said Ambassador Abdulla. In a broader context, he conveyed that Abu Dhabi Export (ADEX) has stated an investment commitment with a primary focus on strengthening national food security. This commitment, according to him, reflects the UAE’s strategic confidence in the potential of Indonesia’s food and agribusiness sector, while serving as a foundation for a mutually beneficial long-term partnership. Furthermore, both parties agreed on the importance of maintaining the intensity of bilateral communication to ensure that the various commitments established can be realised effectively. “The Governments of Indonesia and the UAE agree to continue strengthening investment synergy, facilitating business certainty for strategic investors, and encouraging the acceleration of priority project implementation for shared prosperity,” concluded Minister Airlangga.
