Indonesia and Türkiye Agree to Push for Peace in Palestine
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono stated that Indonesia and Türkiye have agreed to optimise joint steps to return the world’s focus to the Palestinian struggle and to accelerate the achievement of peace in the region. He noted that increasing tensions in the Middle East, following attacks by the United States and Israel on Iran last February, have caused peace efforts in Palestine, particularly in the Gaza Strip, to stall.
“We must return to that, and to do so, we must find ways to resolve this conflict,” said Sugiono, responding to questions regarding issues discussed when President Prabowo Subianto received Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan on Wednesday.
Speaking after a bilateral meeting with Madagascar’s Foreign Minister Alice N’Diaye at the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs complex in Jakarta, Sugiono explained that Prabowo and Fidan discussed the developments of the situation in the Middle East and efforts towards conflict resolution there. In addition to discussing joint efforts to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people, President Prabowo also expressed his gratitude to Minister Fidan for Türkiye’s efforts in releasing nine Indonesian citizens who were kidnapped by Israeli Zionist personnel some time ago.
Prabowo noted that Türkiye played a key role in assisting these Indonesian citizens, as well as all participants of the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) 2.0 convoy, which was intercepted by Zionist forces in the middle of last month, until they successfully exited Israel and returned safely to their homeland. “President Prabowo conveyed his thanks to President Erdogan through Foreign Minister Fidan during the meeting,” said Sugiono.
He also revealed that Minister Fidan’s visit was carried out to fulfil a direct invitation from President Prabowo. According to an official statement from the Presidential Secretariat, the meeting took place at Prabowo’s residence in Hambalang, Bogor, West Java, and was conducted in a warm and friendly atmosphere, reflecting the close friendship and strategic partnership between Indonesia and Türkiye. As fellow members of the Global South, Indonesia and Türkiye also share aligned views on the importance of maintaining regional stability through dialogue, diplomacy, and peaceful resolution, according to the Presidential Secretariat.
