Indonesia and Thailand to Exchange Information to Combat Transnational Crime

President Prabowo Subianto has stated that Indonesia and Thailand have agreed to strengthen law enforcement cooperation to exchange information, intelligence, and investigations in handling transnational crime. “We agreed to strengthen cooperation in the exchange of information and intelligence. Also, joint investigation cooperation,” Prabowo said in a joint press statement with Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Monday. Both countries also agreed to track financial flows connected to transnational crime networks for cross-border offences, with online scams being a particular concern for both governments. Indonesia and Thailand are committed to accelerating the mechanism for the protection, identification, and safe repatriation of victims of transnational crime. “We support the development of a transnational referral mechanism as a breakthrough to accelerate the protection, identification, and repatriation of victims of transnational crime safely and with dignity,” Prabowo said. Thailand has facilitated the repatriation of nearly 1,000 Indonesian citizens who were victims of online scams. “I express my appreciation and thanks on behalf of the Indonesian nation to the Thai government for its assistance and close cooperation in facilitating the repatriation of Indonesian citizens who were victims of online scams,” Prabowo stated.
