Indonesia and Thailand target US$20 billion in bilateral trade by 2030
Economic cooperation remains a key pillar of our bilateral relations. We are optimistic that the US$20 billion trade target by 2030 can be achieved through the implementation of the strategic partnership roadmap.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The governments of Indonesia and Thailand are targeting bilateral trade to reach US$20 billion by 2030 through strengthened strategic partnerships across various sectors.
The commitment was conveyed by President Prabowo Subianto during a joint press statement after receiving a visit from Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Monday evening.
“Economic cooperation remains a key pillar of our bilateral relations. We are optimistic that the US$20 billion trade target by 2030 can be achieved through the implementation of the strategic partnership roadmap,” Prabowo said.
During the first visit by a Thai prime minister to Indonesia in 15 years, the two leaders adopted the Indonesia-Thailand Strategic Partnership Roadmap 2026–2030 as a guideline for strengthening bilateral relations across various fields.
In the economic sphere, Indonesia and Thailand agreed to expand investment, improve market access, and strengthen partnerships between business communities.
The two countries will also establish a Joint Trade Commission, the first bilateral mechanism of its kind in the history of Indonesia-Thailand relations, to identify business opportunities while addressing trade barriers.
“We also agreed to enhance cooperation in food security, including agricultural technology, logistics, food processing, and supply chain resilience,” Prabowo stated.
Indonesia and Thailand further committed to strengthening digital economy cooperation, including expanding the use of local currency transactions (LCT) to improve trade and investment efficiency.
“With our respective strengths in the halal industry sector, Indonesia and Thailand can support each other in building regional and global halal industry value chains,” Prabowo said.
According to Anutin, this potential must be harnessed by increasing trade and investment access and strengthening business-to-business partnerships.
“We agreed that Thailand and Indonesia have great potential to increase the volume of bilateral trade and investment,” Anutin remarked.
