Indonesia and Thailand Sign Strategic Partnership Roadmap and Education MOU
A state meeting between President Prabowo Subianto and Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand Anutin Charnvirakul, along with their respective delegations, has resulted in strengthened cooperation. The collaboration was formalised through a strategic partnership roadmap document, an MOU in the field of education, and agreements in the tourism sector.
The enhanced cooperation was established during Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul’s state visit to the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Monday (3/8/2026). Following the state ceremony, Prabowo and Charnvirakul witnessed the exchange of several cooperation documents between Indonesia and Thailand. The exchange of these documents represents a concrete outcome of PM Charnvirakul’s official visit to Indonesia and reaffirms both nations’ commitment to strengthening their strategic partnership across various fields.
The first document presented before President Prabowo and PM Charnvirakul was the Roadmap on Strategic Partnership Between Indonesia and Thailand 2026-2030, exchanged by Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sugiono and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand Sihasak Phuangketkeow. This document serves as a joint guide for both countries in reinforcing their strategic partnership over the next five years.
Subsequently, a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education of the Republic of Indonesia and the Ministry of Education of the Kingdom of Thailand on Cooperation in the Field of Education was exchanged by Minister of Basic and Secondary Education Abdul Mu’ti and Minister of Education of Thailand Prasert Jantararuangtong. This understanding forms the foundation for cooperation between the two nations in developing the education sector and improving the quality of human resources.
In a joint press statement, President Prabowo noted that the bilateral meeting produced several tangible achievements that will strengthen relations between the two countries in the future. Beyond government-to-government cooperation, President Prabowo also welcomed commitments from the private sector that further expand collaboration. He highlighted an MOU between the Tourism Authority of Thailand and TransNusa in the field of tourism and connectivity, as well as an MOU between Bio-Axel and Pro-Konsilium regarding an organic waste processing project.
President Prabowo expressed his appreciation for PM Charnvirakul’s official visit and optimism for the increasingly close future relationship between Indonesia and Thailand.
Regarding regional issues, President Prabowo stated that Indonesia and Thailand agreed to encourage ASEAN to play a constructive role in supporting the creation of sustainable peace in Myanmar. Both countries support ASEAN’s efforts to push for the implementation of the Five-Point Consensus through inclusive dialogue, the cessation of violence, and increased humanitarian access.
