Indonesia and Thailand Push for Peace in Myanmar via Five-Point Consensus

Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has stated that Indonesia and Thailand have agreed to push ASEAN towards realising sustainable peace in Myanmar. Prabowo said the political and humanitarian crisis in Myanmar must be brought to an end immediately.

“Indonesia and Thailand will continue to work together to encourage ASEAN to play a constructive role in supporting the creation of sustainable peace in Myanmar,” Prabowo said during a joint press statement with Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Monday (3/8/2026).

Both countries support ASEAN’s efforts to get Myanmar to implement the Five-Point Consensus (5PC) and halt violence against civilians. “We agree to support ASEAN’s efforts to encourage the implementation of the Five-Point Consensus through inclusive dialogue, cessation of violence, and increased humanitarian access,” Prabowo said.

On the occasion, Prabowo and the Thai Prime Minister also discussed the situation in the Middle East. He stated that both countries share the view that the conflict in the region must be resolved through diplomacy and respect for international law. “We also exchanged views on developments in the Middle East, and emphasised the importance of resolving the conflict through diplomatic dialogue and respect for international law,” he said.
