President Prabowo Subianto has affirmed that Indonesia and Thailand are committed to strengthening ASEAN’s role in maintaining regional peace and stability, including pushing for a resolution to the Myanmar conflict through diplomatic channels. Prabowo made the statement during a joint press conference with Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Monday. Both leaders agreed that ASEAN unity and centrality must remain the primary foundation in facing various regional challenges.

Indonesia and Thailand support ASEAN’s efforts to encourage the implementation of the Five Point Consensus regarding Myanmar. These efforts include strengthening inclusive dialogue, ending violence, and increasing humanitarian access for affected communities. ‘We reaffirm the importance of maintaining ASEAN unity and centrality as the foundation for peace, stability, and prosperity in ASEAN,’ Prabowo stated. He added that both nations will continue to work together so that ASEAN can play a constructive role in helping to create sustainable peace in Myanmar.

Beyond the situation in Myanmar, Prabowo mentioned that he and Prime Minister Anutin also exchanged views on several global developments, including dynamics in the Middle East. Both countries stressed the importance of resolving conflicts through dialogue and diplomacy while respecting international law. Prabowo expressed appreciation for the official visit and voiced confidence that the strategic partnership between Indonesia and Thailand will continue to grow and deliver tangible benefits to the people of both countries.
