Indonesia and Thailand Establish First-Ever Joint Trade Commission

President Prabowo Subianto and Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra have agreed to strengthen economic and trade cooperation by establishing a Joint Trade Commission (JTC) as a new bilateral mechanism. The agreement was announced during a joint press statement at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Monday. “This Joint Trade Commission is the first in history, serving as a mechanism to discuss business opportunities and overcome various trade barriers,” said President Prabowo. The President stated that economic cooperation remains a primary pillar of bilateral relations. He expressed optimism that the US$20 billion trade target by 2030 can be achieved through the implementation of the Strategic Partnership Roadmap. Beyond strengthening trade, both countries agreed to expand investment, improve market access, and foster closer partnerships between business actors. In the energy sector, the two nations are pushing for the Indonesia-Thailand Energy Forum as a platform to strengthen energy security while accelerating the transition towards sustainable energy through government and business collaboration.
