Indonesia and Thailand Agree to Strengthen Digital Economy Cooperation, Expand Local Currency Use
Amid the transformation of the global economy, Indonesia and Thailand have also committed to strengthening cooperation in the digital economy sector, including the use of local currency transactions for efficiency in trade and investment.
Jakarta (ANTARA) — The Indonesian and Thai governments have agreed to strengthen cooperation in the digital economy, including expanding the use of local currency transactions in trade and investment.
President Prabowo Subianto, in a joint statement with Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Monday, said the two countries would also reinforce their strategic partnership in the economic, political, and security fields.
“Amid the transformation of the global economy, Indonesia and Thailand are also committed to strengthening cooperation in the digital economy, including the use of local currency transactions for efficiency in trade and investment,” said Prabowo.
The expansion of LCT utilisation forms part of both countries’ efforts to boost investment, widen market access, and deepen partnerships between business players.
Indonesia and Thailand are also targeting bilateral trade to reach US$20 billion by 2030 through the implementation of the two countries’ strategic partnership roadmap.
According to Anutin, the two countries share a long-standing relationship and stand ready to elevate their mutually beneficial partnership.
“As two nations that are the main pillars of ASEAN, we must work more closely to expand bilateral cooperation and drive our region forward,” said Anutin.
