JAKARTA — Indonesia and Tajikistan have reaffirmed their commitment to fostering more concrete and impactful bilateral cooperation across various priority sectors. According to a written statement from the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday, the commitment was made during the bilateral consultation meeting chaired by Indonesian Deputy Foreign Minister Arrmanatha Nasir and Tajikistan’s Deputy Foreign Minister Idibek Kalandar in Dushanbe on 27 May 2026. ‘Indonesia views Tajikistan as a key partner in strengthening connectivity and regional cooperation between ASEAN and Central Asia, amid rising geopolitical dynamics and the need for more inclusive global collaboration,’ said Arrmanatha. The meeting also discussed plans to develop a bilateral cooperation roadmap as a guide for a more focused, inclusive, and results-oriented long-term relationship. The two deputy ministers signed a Memorandum of Understanding to establish a Bilateral Consultative Committee, marking a new milestone in Indonesia-Tajikistan relations and strengthening the bilateral consultation mechanism. They explored opportunities for collaboration in economics, trade, education, downstream industries, and digital transformation to support sustainable development. In socio-cultural affairs, both countries agreed to strengthen people-to-people ties through tourism, educational cooperation, and cultural exchanges. Indonesia also encouraged stronger ASEAN-Central Asia cooperation by enhancing Tajikistan’s interaction with ASEAN, including potential accession to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation (TAC) and the possibility of Tajikistan opening an embassy and permanent mission to ASEAN in Jakarta. Beyond bilateral issues, the two nations exchanged views on regional geopolitical developments and reaffirmed their commitment to mutual support in international forums.
