Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono and South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Hyun agreed to accelerate the implementation of a comprehensive strategic partnership when the two met on the sidelines of the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting/Post Ministerial Conferences (AMM/PMC) in Manila last week.

“Indonesia is ready to continue working closely with the Republic of Korea to produce concrete cooperation,” said Sugiono in a written statement from the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday.

In addition to discussing the follow-up to the Indonesian President’s visit to Korea in April, the two ministers also agreed to accelerate the implementation of various commitments made by the leaders of both countries, particularly through strengthened cooperation in the fields of defence, energy, and investment.

Specifically, Foreign Minister Cho Hyun affirmed his commitment to encouraging Korean corporate investment in the development of shipyards in Indonesia, which will support the construction of large and medium-sized commercial vessels and strengthen Indonesia’s maritime industry.

The two foreign ministers also exchanged views on developments in a number of regional and global issues, including the situation in Iran and on the Korean Peninsula.

Foreign Minister Cho Hyun expressed support for Indonesia to play a constructive role in encouraging de-escalation efforts and the peaceful resolution of the conflict in Iran.

Strengthening multilateralism and the rules-based international order was also among the topics discussed at the meeting between the two ministers.

The bilateral meeting reflects the commitment of Indonesia and South Korea to continue strengthening an increasingly substantive strategic partnership and to contribute to peace, stability, and prosperity in the region.
