Indonesia and Singapore to Hold Bilateral Meetings Across Six Cooperation Groups
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Singapore’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade and Industry, Gan Kim Yong, is scheduled to undertake an official visit to Indonesia to lead the ministerial-level meeting of six bilateral economic working groups between Singapore and Indonesia on 9 June 2026.
According to a statement from Singapore’s Ministry of Trade and Industry on Monday, this marks Kim Yong’s first visit to Indonesia since assuming office. The purpose is to lead the 16th Ministerial Meeting of the Singapore-Indonesia Six Bilateral Economic Working Groups (6WG MM) alongside Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto.
The meeting serves as a high-level strategic economic forum established by Singapore and Indonesia to evaluate and strengthen cooperation across six primary sectors. These sectors include the Batam, Bintan, and Karimun (BBK) region, as well as other special economic zones, investment, labour, transport, agribusiness, and tourism.
The Singaporean government stated that the economic relationship between the two nations continues to grow, characterised by increasing bilateral trade and investment. Cooperation between the two countries is also expanding into new fields, such as the digital economy, green economy, industrial infrastructure, and agricultural technology.
The strengthening of this partnership is supported by the regular intensity of high-level meetings ahead of the 60th anniversary of Indonesia-Singapore diplomatic relations in 2027. During his visit to Jakarta, Gan will be accompanied by Singapore’s Senior Minister of State for Defence, as well as Sustainability and the Environment, Zaqy Mohamad, along with several officials from relevant ministries and agencies.
