Indonesia and Singapore have officially strengthened their strategic partnership through 26 concrete agreements at the Leaders’ Retreat held at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Monday. President Prabowo Subianto and Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong agreed on broad collaboration covering the government-to-government (G2G) and business-to-business (B2B) sectors. Prabowo stressed that the meeting was intensive and future-oriented. Of the total 26 agreements, 18 are intergovernmental cooperation and the remaining 8 are business-to-business deals. “A strong partnership is built on trust. Not only between governments but also between the peoples of the two countries. Therefore, connectivity, tourism, education, and cooperation among youth are very important,” Prabowo said. In the economic pillar, the government appointed BPI Danantara to lead the implementation of cross-border electricity trading. In addition, the two countries strengthened supply chains through a Joint Statement on Supply Chain Resilience as well as collaboration in the digital economy, cyber security, and food security. The green energy sector was also a major highlight with an MoU on carbon credit collaboration and the development of solar energy infrastructure in Morowali. Meanwhile, B2B cooperation involves large entities such as Telkom, Pertamina Power Indonesia, and the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN) focusing on technological innovation and industrial estate development. Beyond economic and defence aspects, Prabowo emphasised the importance of people-to-people relations. The agreement also includes strengthening aviation connectivity, education, and youth empowerment as the foundation for long-term trust between the two countries. The government sector focuses on strengthening regulation, energy security, and social protection. In the private and state-owned enterprise sectors, collaboration is emphasised on energy transition and future digital infrastructure. President Prabowo asserted that all these agreements are evidence of an increasingly broad and deep bilateral relationship. The appointment of BPI Danantara in the cross-border electricity project is one of the government’s strategic steps in implementing the green energy roadmap with Singapore.
