Indonesia and Saudi Arabia have agreed to strengthen coordination, information exchange, and the utilisation of technology in the administration of the Hajj pilgrimage. This move is intended to enhance protection and services for pilgrims, particularly for Indonesian citizens.

The agreement was reached during a meeting between the Deputy Chief of the Indonesian National Police, Commissioner General Dedi Prasetyo, and officials from the Presidency of State Security (PSS) of Saudi Arabia at King Abdul Aziz International Airport, Jeddah, on Monday (1/6/2026).

“Indonesia and Saudi Arabia have agreed to continue strengthening the communication and cooperation that has been well-established, specifically in supporting security, the protection of citizens, the exchange of experiences, and the improvement of the quality of services for Hajj pilgrims,” stated the Head of Public Relations for the Indonesian National Police, Inspector General Johnny Eddizon Isir, in a statement on Tuesday (2/side/2026).

During the meeting, both nations assessed that the use of technology is a key factor in supporting increasingly complex Hajj management. Saudi Arabia’s experience in managing millions of pilgrims from various countries using modern technological support is considered a valuable reference for improving the quality of large-scale management in the future.

This step is expected to strengthen the protection of Indonesian pilgrims from the departure process, through the performance of rituals in the Holy Land, until their return to Indonesia. During the meeting, the Deputy Chief of Police expressed appreciation to the Government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the PSS for the support, services, and security provided during this year’s Hajj season.

According to Dedi, the good cooperation between the two nations has contributed to the smooth execution of the pilgrimage for Indonesian pilgrims. He also reaffirmed Indonesia’s commitment to continuously strengthen coordination between the Hajj Task Force, the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah of the Republic of Indonesia, and all relevant ministries and agencies to support a safe and orderly Hajj administration.

The Saudi Arabian PSS also noted that this year’s Hajj implementation proceeded well due to the optimisation of personnel, strengthened coordination, and the use of technology in both security and service systems. Strengthening coordination, utilising technology, increasing public literacy, and fostering synergy between the Hajj Task Force, the Indonesian Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, Indonesian government representatives in Saudi Arabia, and the authorities of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia are seen as essential to ensuring Indonesian pilgrims can perform their rituals safely, comfortably, and in accordance with regulations.
