The Government of the Republic of Indonesia (RI) is strengthening energy cooperation with Russia amid global geopolitical dynamics that influence world energy supply stability. This initiative came to the fore during President Prabowo Subianto’s visit to Moscow on Sunday night (12/4/2026).

Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia accompanied President Prabowo on the trip. The government has positioned the energy sector as one of the main focuses in bilateral relations between the two countries.

Spokesperson for the Ministry of ESDM, Dwi Anggia, stated that the visit is part of the continuation of the Indonesia-Russia partnership oriented towards long-term energy interests. “This working visit is a continuation of the partnership between the two countries for Indonesia’s long-term national energy resilience,” Dwi Anggia said in Jakarta on Monday (13/4/2026).

She explained that global geopolitical dynamics are driving Indonesia to strengthen strategic cooperation to maintain national energy resilience. The high-level meeting also opens opportunities for more concrete cooperation in the future.

President Prabowo is scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin upon arrival in Moscow. The meeting will discuss the continuation of energy cooperation, particularly to ensure national supply stability.

Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya stated that the government is striving to maintain the continuity of energy supplies, including oil. “Continuing cooperation with the Russian government and ensuring stable national energy supplies, including oil availability,” Teddy said.

This strengthening of cooperation emerges amid changes in the global energy landscape influenced by geopolitical tensions. These conditions impact the balance of global energy supply and demand.

In the same agenda, the two heads of state will also exchange views on global geopolitical developments. Indonesia continues to place world stability and peace as the foundation in strengthening strategic partnerships.

President Prabowo, along with a limited entourage, departed from Halim Perdanakusuma TNI AU Base in Jakarta around 23:10 WIB using a Garuda Indonesia aircraft. Foreign Minister Sugiono and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya also accompanied him on the visit.

The journey to Moscow takes approximately 12 hours of nonstop flight and is expected to arrive on Monday morning local time. Upon arrival in Moscow, President Prabowo is scheduled to immediately hold a one-on-one meeting with President Vladimir Putin.
