Indonesia and Russia Agree to Continue Economic Cooperation

Deputy for Coordination of Economic Cooperation and Investment in the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, Edi Prio Pambudi, signed the Protocol of the 7th Meeting of the Indonesia-Russia Working Group on Trade, Investment, and Industry (WGTII) alongside Russia’s Deputy Minister for Economic Development, Vladimir Illichev, on Thursday, 9 April 2026.

The document represents one of the outcomes of discussions on economic cooperation and investment between Indonesia and Russia. “Through the signing of the Protocol of the 7th WGTII RI-Russia Meeting, both countries reaffirm their commitment to continue strengthening mutually beneficial cooperation,” Edi stated in an official remark on Friday, 10 April 2026.

Mutually beneficial cooperation, he said, includes enhancing market access, investment, and the development of value-added industries.

Edi explained that the Protocol of the 7th Working Group on Trade, Investment, and Industry RI-Russia Meeting contains agreements, developments in cooperation, and follow-up plans in several priority sectors for both countries.

The document also serves as a reference for implementing the results of technical discussions to ensure that bilateral cooperation runs sustainably and effectively. Several fields are listed in the protocol’s substance, including trade and investment, renewable new energy, and the agricultural sector covering fisheries, fertilisers, and palm oil.

In addition, Indonesia and Russia noted cooperation in priority industrial sectors such as pharmaceuticals and health, metallurgy, chemicals, aviation, and infrastructure.

Indonesia and Russia also encourage the continuation of cooperation in logistics, special economic zones, the creative economy, the environment and climate change, as well as strengthening inter-regional relations.

The signing of the protocol was witnessed by the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Indonesia, Sergey Tolchenov.
