Indonesia and Qatar Strengthen Defence Industry and Prepare to Sign DCA
The Indonesian Minister of Defence held a bilateral meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence of Qatar, Sheikh Saoud bin Abdurrahman bin Hassan bin Ali Al Thani, at the Ministry of Defence in Central Jakarta on Tuesday (2/6/2026). This meeting follows a previous visit by the Indonesian Minister to Doha, Qatar, in April 2025.
During the meeting, both parties agreed to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) as an initial step towards a more comprehensive Defence Cooperation Agreement (DCA). The Indonesian Minister of Defence explained that Indonesia and Qatar are currently drafting the DCA, and the MoU serves to formalise commitments before the final agreement is concluded.
“Today, we are signing a fundamental commitment towards the Defence Cooperation Agreement (DCA). We will cooperate in areas including training, education, and the defence industry, covering both land and maritime sectors,” stated the Minister during a joint statement at the Ministry of Defence in Jakarta.
Furthermore, Minister Sjafrie noted that both parties agreed to enhance cooperation between defence industry players from both nations. This initiative is expected to strengthen the defence industrial capacities of both Indonesia and Qatar. “Indonesia believes that this cooperation will undoubtedly result in mutual benefits and mutual respect between Indonesia and Qatar,” added Sjafrie.
