Indonesia and Qatar Sign Military Cooperation Agreement on Human Resources and Defence Industry

The Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Indonesia (Kemenhan RI) and the government of Qatar have officially signed several cooperation agreements in the military sector. The agreements were signed by Minister of Defence Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin and the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defence of Qatar, Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman bin Hassan bin Ali Al Thani, at the Indonesian Ministry of Defence office on Tuesday (2/6/2026).

“We are honoured to sign several matters related to the intensity of defence cooperation between Indonesia and Qatar, including military cooperation, training, education, the defence industry, and more,” said Sjafrie on Tuesday.

Sjafrie stated that the signing of this Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) serves as a bridge towards a formal Defence Cooperation Agreement (DCA). “Although we are still in the process of drafting the Defence Cooperation Agreement, today we are signing an agreement that acts as a bridge towards that DCA. We will continue this momentum until the Defence Cooperation Agreement is officially signed,” the Minister added.

Furthermore, both nations also signed an MoU between the defence industries of Indonesia and Qatar. Through this agreement, he hopes that the collaboration between the two countries will foster improved cooperation. Sjafrie expressed optimism that this partnership will not only strengthen the defence systems of each respective nation but is also based on the principles of equality and robust mutual benefit in the future.
