Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia and several other countries have strongly condemned the implementation of Israel’s law that permits the application of the death penalty to Palestinian people, stating that such practices are increasingly discriminatory and strengthen the apartheid system.

This was conveyed by the Foreign Ministers of Indonesia, Egypt, Jordan, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in an official statement from Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu) posted on social media in Jakarta on Thursday.

“The Ministers reaffirm their opposition to Israel’s racially discriminatory, oppressive, and aggressive policies targeting Palestinian citizens,” the official statement quoted.

The statement said that Israel’s practices are becoming increasingly discriminatory and further entrench the apartheid system and denialist discourse that negates the inalienable rights and existence of the Palestinian people in the Occupied Palestinian Territory (OPT).

They underscored that the law represents a dangerous escalation, particularly its discriminatory application to Palestinian detainees, and emphasised that such actions risk exacerbating tensions and undermining regional stability.

They also expressed deep concern over the conditions of Palestinian detainees in Israeli prisons, warning of heightened risks amid credible reports of ongoing violations, including torture, inhuman and degrading treatment, starvation, and denial of basic rights.

“The Ministers further emphasise the need for immediate restraint from actions imposed by the occupying power that risk further exacerbating tensions on the ground,” the statement said.

They stressed the importance of ensuring accountability and called for strengthened international efforts to maintain stability and prevent the situation from worsening.
