The Government of the Republic of Indonesia and the Kingdom of Morocco are exploring opportunities to enhance cooperation between the two nations in the field of culture, including collaboration in the development of traditional musical performances.

According to a ministry press release confirmed in Jakarta on Tuesday, discussions regarding cultural cooperation were held during a meeting between the Indonesian Minister of Culture, Fadli Zon, and the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco to Indonesia, Redouane Houssaini.

“Morocco’s Andalusi traditional music may align with the gambus and kasidah music in Indonesia. Moving forward, Indonesia and Morocco can establish cultural cooperation through these two musical genres,” said Fadli.

“In addition to organising musical performances, we could also invite gambus and Andalusi musicians to collaborate on the same stage,”

He added, “The signing of an MoU could be accelerated to serve as a follow-up to the cooperation between Indonesia and Morocco. Furthermore, we can launch programmes that advance the cultural ecosystem, such as artist residency programmes, traditional music performances, and cultural conferences.”

He also expressed hope that the governments of Indonesia and the Kingdom of Morocco could explore more potential areas of cultural cooperation that would benefit the development of the creative industry and the preservation of local traditions in both countries.

The Ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco to Indonesia, Redouane Houssaini, stated that Indonesia and Morocco could collaborate to boost culture-based economic ventures, promote culture, and strengthen institutions such as museums.

“We can continue to strive to promote our cultures. Through a friendship based on respect, we can do our best to advance the culture of our respective nations,” he said.
