Minister of Foreign Affairs Tata: The potential for cooperation between Indonesia and Mongolia is still very wide.

JAKARTA - Indonesia and Mongolia held a Political Consultation Meeting in the momentum of celebrating 70 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries in Jakarta, Thursday, marking the holding of a new round of strengthening the partnership between the two countries.

This meeting was jointly led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia Arrmanatha C. Nasir and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia Amartuvshin Gombosuren.

During the meeting, the two Deputy Foreign Ministers exchanged views on the development of bilateral relations which showed positive trends and potential for expanding cooperation in strategic economics, defense, agriculture, education, health, inter-community relations, tourism, as well as science and technology.

“The potential for cooperation between Indonesia and Mongolia is still very broad. Increasing the engagement of business actors is the key, including through a memorandum of understanding between chambers of commerce as a bridge to expand trade, investment, and business partnerships,” said Wamenlu Tata, launching the statement from the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Friday (27/2).

In the agricultural sector, Indonesia is seen as having the capacity to support the improvement of human resource capacity through sustainable agricultural development training programs.

Meanwhile, in the field of education, cooperation is strengthened through various Indonesian scholarship programs, including The Indonesian Aid Scholarship (TIAS), Indonesian Art and Culture Scholarship (BSBI), capacity building training for Mongolian diplomats, and the Developing Country Partnership program.

The two countries also discussed the development of the global geopolitical situation and efforts to increase collaboration in regional and multilateral forums. As a concrete step to strengthen foreign policy dialogue, both parties will explore the establishment of an inter-ministerial Policy Planning Dialogue to deepen strategic coordination and exchange views on the dynamics of the Indo-Pacific region and global issues.

This meeting is a follow-up to the signing of the MoU on Political Consultation by the two countries’ foreign ministers in Jakarta in May 2025, and also serves as the foundation for strengthening a more structured and sustainable bilateral dialogue architecture.

Bilateral relations between Indonesia and Mongolia continue to show positive trends, especially in the trade sector. Total trade between the two countries in 2025 reached 56 million US dollars, with Indonesian exports valued at 49.5 million US dollars and imports from Mongolia at 6.5 million US dollars.

The relationship between the two countries was also strengthened by the presence of the only Mongolian Cultural Center in Southeast Asia in Tanjung Lesung, Banten.

“Indonesia is proud to host this strategic meeting. We hope that the partnership between Indonesia and Mongolia will continue to grow within the framework of a more comprehensive cooperation, responsive to global challenges, and able to provide tangible benefits for the people of both countries,” concluded Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Tata.
