Indonesia and Mongolia Strengthen Bilateral Partnership Through Political Consultation
Jakarta – Indonesia and Mongolia reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral partnership to a new level through a political consultation meeting at Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Jakarta on Thursday, 26 February.
In the meeting, Indonesia’s Deputy Foreign Minister (Wamenlu) Arrmanatha Nasir and Mongolia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Amartuvshin Gombosuren exchanged views on positive trends in bilateral relations and opportunities for expanding cooperation across various sectors.
“The potential for cooperation between Indonesia and Mongolia remains very broad. Increased engagement of business actors is key, among other things through Memoranda of Understanding between chambers of commerce as a bridge to expand trade, investment, and business partnerships,” said Deputy Foreign Minister Nasir, according to a written statement from the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday.
Both parties highlighted cooperation potential in strategic economic sectors, defence, agriculture, education, health, people-to-people relations, tourism, and science and technology.
In the education sector, cooperation was strengthened through various Indonesian scholarship programmes for Mongolian students, including The Indonesian Aid Scholarship (TIAS), the Indonesian Arts and Culture Scholarship (BSBI), and capacity-building training for Mongolian diplomats and the Developing Country Partnership (KNB) programme.
Indonesia and Mongolia also agreed to explore the establishment of a policy planning dialogue to deepen strategic coordination and exchange views regarding Indo-Pacific dynamics and global issues.
“We hope that Indonesia-Mongolia partnership continues to develop within a framework of more comprehensive cooperation, responsive to global challenges, and able to provide tangible benefits to the people of both nations,” said Deputy Foreign Minister Nasir.
The meeting coincided with the commemoration of 70 years of bilateral relations between the two countries and followed up on a political consultation Memorandum of Understanding signed in May 2025.
The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that total Indonesia-Mongolia trade in 2025 reached 56 million US dollars with a positive trend.
Indonesia also hosts the only Mongolian Cultural Centre in Southeast Asia, located in Tanjung Lesung, Pandeglang Regency, Banten.
