Indonesia and India target data centre and semiconductor cooperation at BRICS Forum
The Indonesian government and India have discussed opportunities for cooperation in strategic sectors, ranging from data centres and digital industrial transformation to semiconductors, during the 10th BRICS Industry Ministers’ Meeting in Jaipur, India.
The potential for enhanced industrial collaboration between the two countries was discussed in a bilateral meeting between Indonesia’s Deputy Minister of Industry Faisol Riza and India’s Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Jitin Prasada.
“We hope this meeting can further strengthen relations between the two countries while opening up opportunities for more concrete, implementable and mutually beneficial industrial collaboration,” said Indonesia’s Deputy Minister of Industry Faisol Riza in a statement confirmed in Jakarta on Wednesday.
Faisol said the bilateral meeting, held last week, was a follow-up to the increasingly close relationship between the two countries following Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto’s visit to India for the 2025 Republic Day celebrations, as well as Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s state visit to Indonesia in July 2026.
The series of high-level meetings marked a new chapter in cooperation in trade, investment, health, pharmaceuticals, industrial downstreaming and human resource development.
Trade relations between Indonesia and India also continue to show positive development. The value of trade between the two countries in 2025 reached 23.16 billion US dollars, with Indonesian exports amounting to 18.32 billion US dollars and imports at 4.84 billion US dollars.
However, Indonesia’s non-oil and gas manufacturing exports to India have declined in recent years. This situation was one of the agenda items discussed by the two countries to expand market access for Indonesian manufactured products.
The bilateral meeting took place as Indonesia officially became a full member of BRICS, opening up broader industrial collaboration opportunities with member countries, including India.
During the meeting, the Indian government welcomed the concrete cooperation proposals put forward by Indonesia in strategic sectors, particularly the development of green industry, semiconductors and the agro-industry.
The Indian government also raised concerns about import quota restriction policies on several of its products to Indonesia. The issue will be forwarded by Indonesia to the relevant ministries for follow-up.
Indonesia also invited India to expand collaboration in the semiconductor industry, which plays a strategic role in supporting various priority sectors, from electronics, automotive and telecommunications to energy and digital transformation.
Specifically in digital industrial transformation, this is directed through the implementation of automation, artificial intelligence, smart manufacturing and the development of data centres that can increase productivity and competitiveness of the industries of both countries.
The countries that are members of BRICS include Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Indonesia.
