Indonesia and India Sign BrahMos Missile Procurement Contract

Indonesia and India have agreed on a contract for the procurement of BrahMos missile defence systems. The agreement was one of 16 cooperation documents signed in various fields, ranging from defence and energy to health, culture, and technology, during a bilateral meeting at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Tuesday, 7 July 2026. Prime Minister Modi stated that trust between Indonesia and India is growing stronger. “This is reflected in our security and defence cooperation as well as maritime collaboration,” he said during a joint press statement with President Prabowo. The procurement of missiles from India was recorded as one of the points of cooperation signed today. The document listed the “Contract for the procurement of the BrahMos missile defence system between BrahMos Aerospace and the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Indonesia” as point number 12. Another missile procurement agreement was also announced. Point number 13 detailed an “Agreement for the procurement of air-to-air missiles (AAM) between Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) and Republikorp.” Prime Minister Modi is on a three-day visit to Indonesia, having arrived in Jakarta on Monday, 6 July 2026. In addition to the capital, he is scheduled to visit Yogyakarta to see the Prambanan Temple. President Prabowo officially received Modi with a state ceremony at the Merdeka Palace on Tuesday. They subsequently held a closed-door bilateral meeting with their respective delegations, followed by a luncheon. Among the strategic memoranda of understanding exchanged in the presence of President Prabowo and Prime Minister Modi was a cooperation agreement between the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) and the Indian Space Research Organisation, covering space research collaboration.
